Laos' state-owned airline Lao Airlines had its first flight departing from Vientiane, the country's capital, to Guangzhou on Nov. 29, becoming the first flight from the Southeast Asian country.
The plane decorated with Champa, the national flower of Laos, was welcomed into Guangzhou's Baiyun Airport at 4:49pm that day with a arch of water performed by fire engines – a typical tribute to a plane's maiden voyage.
Being Laos' third route to China after the Kunming and Xishuangbanna, the flight runs three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It arrives in Guangzhou at 4:10pm and departs at 6:10pm.
Lao Airlines, founded in 1976, is the country's flagship carrier. So far the airline has reached seven destinations in Laos and 11 destinations internationally in China, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Korea.
