On November 30, a meeting for the future development of the Pazhou region was held by the Guangzhou Municipal Government. The construction plan for four functional areas of Pazhou has come out after a third-time approval by government.
From west to east, Pazhou has been divided into Sections A, B1, B2 and C, with a total area of 10.43 square kilometers. Waterfront landscape protection has also been considered in the plan.
The A section, which will be the 20-plot headquarter business area, is close to the Guangzhou Tower and International Conference and Exposition Center. The headquarter offices will have a total construction area of 2.14 million square meters. A 350 meter high land mark office building will soon be located directly opposite Guangzhou’s Canton Tower.
The B1 section is the international hospitality and exposition area, including the first to the third zones of the Pazhou International Conference Center, which plays host to the biannual Canton Fair.
As the conference and exposition supporting area, the B2 section will focus on office buildings, hotels and entertainment facilities. “Pazhou Eye”, the highlight of the B2 section, is a natural aquatic area formed by the Pearl River which branches out in the shape of an eye. Two towers with heights of 300 meters and 250 meters will be built near the area to compliment the view of the Pazhou Pagoda.
The theme of the C section will be tourism and leisure. To mix modern architecture with centuries of history, the Huangpu ancient villages and ports will be protected and renovated.
The details of the construction plan have been released, stipulating that the municipal roads will be finished in 2013, while two vehicle tunnels and four tunnels across the river will be built from 2015 to 2017. A veranda underground will connect A, B, C and D sections.
Aerial verandas will also be built to connect Pazhou’s four main buildings. Pazhou boasts five city parks, and a pedestrian bridge spanning the river from Pazhou to Yuancun is currently under construction.
