Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, which inaugurated commercial flights on August 5th 2004, is one of the three major civilian airports in China. Today, it hosts over 30 airlines worldwide, operating a total of more than 110 flights to over 100 cities at home and abroad.

Located in the north of Guangzhou, neighboring Huadu District and Renhe Town, the airport is 28 kilometers distant from Haizhu Square, the geographic center of Guangzhou. Using specially constructed expressways, passengers from Guangzhou or neighboring cities can arrive at the airport conveniently.

Departing passengers are not allowed to check in as late as 45 minutes before the plane takes off, and please get to the airport well ahead of time.

Situated on Huanshi Xi Lu in the northwest of Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Railway Station is convenient by bus or subway. Trains from this station serve big and mid-sized cities all over China.

Guangzhou East Railway Station, located in Tianhe District, serves railway routes such as Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Guangzhou-Kowloon (Hong Kong) and Guangzhou-Shantou. Additionally, the station has trains running along Beijing-Kowloon railway that crosses the eastern part of China.

Guangzhou also connects to the Beijing-Guangzhou railway line running from Beijing West Railway Station in the north of China to Shenzhen in the south, and continuing on to Kowloon in Hong Kong. Besides stops at Beijing and Tianjin, there are another 96 cities in six provinces served including Hebei, Shangdong, Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi and Guangdong. In Guangdong Province, another two railways, Guangzhou-Maoming and Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou, join the line. Additionally, passengers can get from Guangzhou to Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region and Sanya, a tourist city in Hainan Province using these train lines.

Every 15 to 30 minutes, a train leaves Guangzhou Railway Station or Guangzhou East Railway Station for Shenzhen. Ticket prices vary (averaging about RMB 70) and are available for different types of trains and it takes about one to one-and-a-half-hours to cover the distance between GZ and Shenzhen depending on the type of train chosen.

Passengers can buy tickets at the railway station or at ticket offices throughout Guangzhou. Tickets are also available by phone (95105105 and 96020088), and passengers can book tickets for trains departing from Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guangzhou North Railway Station and Foshan Railway Station within four to six days in advance of the desired departure.

Guangzhou Railway Station: Take Bus No. 180, 201, 210, 211, 225, 228, 234, 238, 254, 256, 257, 269, 275, 290, 30, 31, 33, 34, 529, 530, 52, 543, 545, 550, 552, 7, 803, 805, 807A, 807, 823, 840, 862A or 862B or Metro Line 2 and get off at the Guangzhou Railway Station station.

Guangzhou East Railway Station: Take Bus No. 122, 175, 177, 183, 185, 195, 209, 233, 256, 263, 271, 280, 283, 292, 302, 41, 43, 45, 506, 515, 551, 62, 804A, 804B, 804, 808, 810 or 884 or Metro Line 1/3 and get off at the Guangzhou East Railway Station station.

The 185 Postal Service Hotline for Tickets: By dialing 185, you can book train tickets and enjoy door-to-door delivery of tickets. Besides the ticket price, the service fee is RMB 5 per ticket. An additional RMB10 per address is needed for delivery of tickets within the urban area.

Road transportation services in Guangzhou have been greatly improved in recent years. Through a wide-reaching network, passengers can buy tickets for any of the 15 passenger stations in Guangzhou and those in Panyu, Huadu, Conghua and Zencheng. Many intercity expressways have been built with long-distance buses serving various destination within and outside of Guangdong Province.

The Special tourist route to Disneyland in Hong Kong: It is Guangdong's first tourist route and departs from the bus station located at Aether Square (Yitai Guangchang) on Jiefang Bei Lu, where tourists can depart for Hong Kong Disneyland directly.

Ferry terminals situated in the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Zhoutouju, Zencheng, Panyu and Nansha operate direct passenger liner services to Hong Kong. Passenger liners at Dashatou Wharf and Xidi Wharf serve other destinations.

The Ferry Terminal is on Shazai Island, Nansha, District, Guangzhou (There are passenger cars at the intersection of Chebei Lu in Tianhe District and the Dashatou Port to pick up passengers free of charge)

There are about 16,000 taxis in Guangzhou. The various colors of the cars signify different taxi companies. Passengers can stop a taxi by just waving his or her hand.

The basic charge is RMB 7 for the first 2.3 kilometers and, at the destination they pay the charge that is displayed on the taximeter plus a RMB 1 fuel surcharge. The price per kilometer beyond the initial 2.3 kilometers is RMB2.2 or RMB2.6 per kilometer depending on whether the route is inside or outside the defined metro service area.

Additionally, by calling and telling operators their location and phone number through the pickup hotline (96122), passengers can be picked up by specially dispatched taxis.

There are four metro lines in Guangzhou and service charges are based on the distance between pick-up and destination points: charges are RMB2 for the first four kilometers; RMB1/every four kilometers from four to twelve kilometers; RMB1/every six kilometers from twelve to twenty-four kilometers and RMB1/every eight kilometers over the distance of twenty-four kilometers.

One-way tickets can be bought at automatic ticket vending machines with coins of 5 Jiao or 1 Yuan, or notes of 5, 10 or 20 Yuan. There are also automatic machines available for passengers to change larger notes. Additionally, passengers can get change from box offices or banks nearby and, moreover, Yangchengtong cards or ordinary stored value tickets are also available.

After having been checked through on a turnstile at the entrance, the ticket should be kept then and put into a container at the exit to be recollected. The holders of Yangchengtong cards, stored value tickets or mobile phones with a special SIM card and a tiny antenna have their cards/tickets/mobile phones checked on a turnstile at the entrance and exit before entering or leaving the subway stations.

Special passages are available in some stations for holders of special tickets and common passages are suitable for holders of ordinary tickets, including stored value tickets, Yangchengtong cards and one-way tickets.

Trains running along Line 3 and 4 are equipped with emergency speaker phones. Whenever emergencies occur, passengers can push the button and, through the telephone, speak directly to the driver reporting any incident that happens on the train.

Guangzhou boasts a highly efficient public transportation with lots of gas and electricity-driven vehicles running on many lines. The price for ordinary buses is RMB1 and RMB2 for buses equipped with air-conditioners. For some buses, passengers pay a varying charge depending on the distance served.

Since there are no conductors on the buses, passengers have to prepare change in advance putting coins or notes that shall be put into the coin slot set at the entrance of the bus. Holders of Yangchengtong cards should hold their cards within 10 centimeters of the card machine for 0.5 second without moving the card before hearing a sound that indicates a successful transaction.

In Guangzhou, passengers are required to get on the bus at the front door and exit from the bus at the back door.

There are over 30 wharfs in Guangzhou serving many liners including Suigang (Guangzhou/Hong Kong) Ferry Terminal in Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xintang Ferry Terminal in Zencheng City, Lianhuashan Ferry Terminal in Panyu District and Nansha Ferry Terminal in Nansha District, Dashatou Ferry Terminal, Zhoutouju Ferry Terminal, Xidi Wharf, etc.

The so-called ferry buses cover the distance between Fangcun Wharf and Sun Yat-sen University Wharf, passing by Xidi Wharf and Tianzi Wharf with a departure every 20 to 30 minutes between 07:00 and 19:00. The service is available at a charge of RMB 2/person/time with the charge set at RMB1/ person/time being charged for a trip between two neighboring wharfs. There are no conductors on the ferry buses, so passengers should prepare change for themselves or they can use Yangchengtong cards.
